Senior Members of the Malta Chefs Society paid a visit to the Hon. George Pullicino, Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs, at the Ministry in Floriana to introduce the members of the Malta Nation Team of Chefs who will compete in the Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany later on this year.
The aim of this meeting was to highlight the vision of the local Maltese Chefs community of further promoting Maltese products in local hotels and restaurants by presenting such products in a professional and informative manner. A fruitful discussion was held between the parties present where the views of the chefs about the local produce were expressed, while the Minister highlighted the importance of researching our cultural and culinary heritage as well as the need to emphasise the freshness of our local produce.
Minister Pullicino invited the chefs to focus on all ingredients that are seasonal and readily available, blessed by our favorable climate to grow such local produce. The proximity between the land where such produce is cultivated and where Maltese chefs incorporate such local products in their preparations is in itself a guarantee of fresh healthy food. There was also an exchange of ideas on how to educate the general public in the use of food products to reduce food going to waste.
The local Chefs expressed their gratitude that the Minister responsible for Agriculture showed great interest in the program that the Malta Chefs Society has developed to help promote the chefs’ profession to the level of recognition it deserves.
