Water Saving Awareness

At St. Joseph, Blata l-Bajda, we have been aware of the necessity of saving water for quite some time.  It is an action in one of our Eko-Skola Action Plans which we have implemented and maintained since scholastic year 2009 / 2010.

One of the measures taken was the installation of water hippos in the school cisterns.  The water hippos were made from half-litre plastic bottles filled with gravel and then installed in the cisterns.  The girls took an active part in doing this and they have passed on the information to the immediate and wider community. 

Besides the rain water is collected in a very big reservoir and used to flush the toilets.  We also have reminder signs not to leave the water running over the sinks in the bathrooms.
