Investment in research and development in areas such as renewable energy sources is an investment in green jobs for our younger generations. Research and development are effectively the key for the creation of such employment opportunities.
This was stated by the Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs George Pullicino during a visit to ‘The Energy Terrace’ project which is underway at San Andrea School and which is being supported by the Malta International Airport plc (MIA). The innovative project supports and develops holistic education whereby the School has taken a hands-on approach to develop an education of the wider understanding of sustainability and renewables. The students have researched this subject over the years and have developed and discovered a wealth of information in this area of prime importance for our country.
Minister Pullicino commended the School and the MIA for the initiative and said that this kind of approach goes a long way in bridging the gap between talking and making our children effectively understand these important themes and their benefits in future. He mentioned the highly-successful Science and Technology Festival, which was organised recently by the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST).
This is part of Government’s drive to popularise science and the intention is to organise this event on a regular basis. Minister Pullicino added that, through MCST, we are also pursuing an initiative of setting up the first Science Interactive Centre in Malta since we firmly believe in such initiatives. A design competition for the Centre will be launched in the coming weeks.
Minister Pullicino was accompanied by Mr Julian Jaeger, Chief Executive Officer of the MIA and officials from the School’s Board of Governors. |
